One of our most common FAQs has been about when to make something a group vs a subgroup. If you're wondering about this, check it out!

In Socialroots, we often say, "a group is a group is a group". It's turtles, all the way down. 🐒 In other words, subgroups have all the basic features of a group, with two key differences:

  1. In addition to subgroup leaders, subgroup participants can also send notes.
  2. The subgroup dashboard contains an additional 'current focus' field, editable in the Subgroup Settings. This allows subgroup members to further help orient new members as they join and collaborate.

Any subgroups created within a group are discoverable on the All Subgroups page. Any that you join will show up just below that, in a collapsible My Subgroups menu.

When you're new to a group, joining existing subgroups is a great way to find the people, conversations, and resources that make the most sense for you.

Create a Subgroup

To create a subgroup, simply click the + Create Subgroup item at the bottom of the navigation menu.

Once you've completed subgroup creation, you can edit any of the subgroup details. Here's a quick overview about how to do that:
