Releases, improvements, and fixes, oh my!

This quarter we have many more people moving conversations into action with Socialroots. This has resulted in a lot of necessary scaling and performance improvements (detailed below), as well as some helpful new features – check it out!

New Features:

Emojis!  🫳 🎤

By popular demand, you can now leave as many emojis as you want on any note or note reply! You can search by keyword, select from various skin tones, and hover to see everyone who ‘emoted’ with any given emoji.

This critically boosts the effectiveness of asynchronous communication!

In-app Invitation Notifications

So you’re the kind who likes to get involved with a bunch of stuff, but keep missing sub/group invitation emails? No worries! Now you can find all your pending invitations with a green dot over your Workspace icon, where you can manage membership in all your Groups. Either accept or ignore invitations to clear the notification.

Changes to what supporters can do

With more customers onboarding their large networks, we have made some changes to the Supporter permissions to prevent misuse of actions. Specifically, Supporters can no longer:

  • Edit key links,
  • Invite people.

Both changes apply at both the group and subgroup levels.

Bug fixes and improvements:

Improving Visual Accessibility

Our ancestors weren’t known for spending hours every day staring at glowing boxes of pure-black on pure-white, and as you may expect, research has shown that extreme color contrast like this can contribute to fatigue and headaches. Since we’re coordinating through screens, we have softened contrast to help your experience to be as pleasant as screen time can be. If you’re still getting headaches, try drinking more water 😀🚰

Performance improvements

This quarter, we’ve put a lot of time into improving response times and scaling our services. This is an ongoing effort, but we made a few significant updates to support performance for larger numbers of people in groups and notes.

In-app Notifications Improvements

Improved in-app notifications enable users to see the most current information for new notes, and reduce the overall amount of notifications that are repetitive.

Email Summary Notifications Improvements

We reduced the email summary notifications to only include new items that others sent.

Persistent draft reply

Occasionally,  if you scrolled off the screen in a note modal reply, you could lose your draft text. We’ve addressed this, so your draft will persist if you accidentally close the modal, and the modal won’t close due to text highlighting  anymore - phew!

"About" pages are called "Settings" now

In Groups and Subgroups, Leaders could change the information and privacy setting in a page called “About (Sub)Group”. We have now renamed this to “(Sub)Group Settings” and dressed it up with the good old cog icon, so it’s more intuitive to find.

Better layout for mobile users

Certain mobile devices were having trouble sending replies or using Action Request buttons due to less-common screen dimensions. We have widened our visual coverage to support more Samsung users. But, fun fact: you still can’t take a Note 7 on an airplane - sorry Samsung fans!

Release notes - Beta 1.8

Behind the scenes, our small team is working hard to continuously improve Socialroots. With this release, we’re excited to introduce some long-standing feature requests and bug fixes. So without further ado, here they are:

New Features:

@Mentions

This super-requested and exciting feature allows you to mention someone in a note and send the note “quietly” (without emails) to everyone else, while emailing the person who is mentioned. The mentioned person will see they are mentioned in their email, as well as in the application on the notes pages. This allows you to have conversations “out loud” and keep context in your group, while not adding unnecessary inbox noise for everyone else.

Search for people in Directory

In the Directory, on the “People” tab, you can now search for specific people in the directory.

Person Profile

In the Directory, on the “People” tab, you can now click on individual people and see their profile page, which includes their group affiliations and whichever contact information they choose to share.

Invite by email now supports bulk copy/paste

When inviting users to a group, you can now click into the first field and paste multiple email addresses from your clipboard. The system identifies email addresses and separates each one into a new field, where you can assign group roles before sending the invite.

Bug fixes and improvements:

External recipients can be bulk copied into notes

The text field for adding external email recipients to notes now supports copy/paste to easily add multiple email addresses.

Inbox and Notes Performance

  • loading Notes from your Workspace Inbox is now much faster
  • Notes are now accurately sorted by latest activity
  • replies sent from email will show up in chronological order on the note.

New Invite button on Dashboard

We had many requests to make it easier to find where to invite people to a group or subgroup, so now you can click the big purple button right from the dashboard.

Improved subgroup invitation

As well as implementing a more straightforward design, it is now much easier to add/invite members to join with different roles during batch invitation.

Thumbnails for notes styling

The Notes page now shows each note thumbnail with a fade, to allow you to preview more of the Note content.

New Flags not clearing bug

The new flags on Notes and replies are now clearing appropriately.

Refined email notifications

This release includes a number of improvements regarding which activity is sent in email summaries, including removing your own activity and de-duplicating activity caused by cross-group notes. Setting your note to send daily or immediate emails about replies now behaves as expected, and the title of the note is now included in the email’s subject line to help you identify where the action is.
