Member Permissions

In Socialroots, group and subgroups have separate permission levels.

💡
Permissions are fractal, so you can be a leader of a group and a supporter of a subgroup. Or a leader of a subgroup but a participant of the group. This enables people to step into leadership and self-organize.

GROUP PERMISSIONS

  • Group Leaders can do ANYTHING, including
    • sending notes (and emailing) the entire group. No one else can send notes in the main group.
    • Create or delete invitation links to add supporters to the group. See more about inviting members here.
    • Auto-add group members to subgroups.
    • Only group leaders can remove or downgrade group members.
  • Group Participants can
    • create subgroups
    • add Key Links to the Group Dashboard
    • invite other participants or supporters into the Group
    • change a Supporter's permission to Participant
  • Group Supporters can reply to notes and join open subgroups.

SUBGROUP PERMISSIONS

  • Subgroup Leaders can
    • remove people from their subgroups,
    • change permissions for all Subgroup Members
  • Subgroup Participants can
    • author notes in subgroups.
    • add Key Links to the Subgroup Dashboard
    • invite other Participants
    • change a Supporter's permission to Participant
  • Subgroup Supporters can reply to notes.
💡
All roles are able to upgrade people to their own permission level.

Group and subgroup permissions can be found by your role in the Members and Directory pages:

Group Leaders have some advantages in a subgroup, such as auto-adding group members there. However, even they cannot promote members to subgroup leaders unless they are also a leader of the subgroup.
